Master’s benevolent arrangement helped fellow disciples resist persecution
By Richard Szabo from Queensland, Australia
Greetings revered Master!
Greetings, fellow practitioners!
Always believing teacher and Dafa’s teachings have more compassionate solutions created many opportunities for me to stop fighting with other disciples to prove my point, cultivate xinxing more diligently, and resist the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution during the final stage of Fa Rectification.
Since obtaining the Fa in 1999, I endured some very harsh lessons while assimilating to Zhen Shan Ren, and validating Dafa with fellow practitioners for the past 24 years.
Many of these losses were due to my own failure to realise that conflicts between Dafa disciples were not always due to mere differences of opinion and understandings. Resolving these conflicts did not depend on whether I argued my case better than other people involved, and forced them into doing what I wanted instead of encouraging them to do it from the heart. This sort of communist fighting mentality was actually meticulously arranged by the Old Forces to disrupt Fa Rectification activities, and prevent sentient beings from being saved at the crucial moment. This helped me better differentiate between Master’s – and the Old Forces’ – arrangements.
For example, I would wrongly assume that struggling with suffering severe hardships and enduring major losses was the key to achieving enlightenment. This more closely aligned with the Old Forces’ thinking from the old universe’s Fa because they want Dafa disciples to become their Fa kings and carefully arranged major tribulations to prove they were worthy of ruling them. This resulted in many years of lost opportunities in cultivation and saving sentient beings.
I enlightened that such hard-line thoughts and actions were not really necessary. The only criteria to determine good and evil is Zhen Shan Ren, which is the only standard I should meet instead of constantly trying to prove myself. I should actually have chosen to follow Master’s path instead through improving xinxing and allowing more benevolent miracles to manifest according to Dafa.
Master says in Zhuan Falun: “If one could improve just by working the body, I would say that Chinese peasants suffer the most. Shouldn’t they all become qigong masters, then? No matter how much you work the body, you do not suffer as much as they do, who work both hard and painstakingly in the field every day under the baking sun. It is not that simple a matter. Therefore, we have said that to truly improve yourself, you should genuinely elevate your mind. Only then can you truly improve.”
Master said in Zhuan Falun:“It is an ordinary person’s motto that one should live to prove one’s point or save face. Think about it, everyone: Living to prove one’s point or to save face—isn’t it tiring? Isn’t it painful? Is it worthwhile?”
I’d like to share something that happened in our local area that gave me a deeper understanding of Master’s arrangements.
A younger practitioner who had lived in Australia for a year, and whose parents practiced Dafa in mainland China since 1996, recently approached me after the group exercise. She was very upset and concerned about not hearing from her mother and father in mainland China. She investigated and quickly discovered the CCP had illegally arrested her family members about one week prior, simply for delivering truth clarification fliers to mailboxes. She began crying and I was the only other practitioner there. I was not sure what to do so offered all of my tissues and tried to calm her down.
I began wondering why I was being roped into that disciple’s family problem but reminded myself this was not about me and was an emergency situation involving fellow practitioners. I did not argue with the disciple and instead looked within to find reasons for why this happened to our body of cultivators. I realised I had not attended many truth clarification activities because my car needed to be repaired. I had only attended really major Dafa events and neglected smaller-scale activities under the excuse of having no working car. How can I remove my own gaps and also help the parents continue their mission to save sentient beings? I eventually enlightened this was a precious opportunity to clarify the truth and save sentient beings. I decided to overcome my car troubles by hiring a rental vehicle.
The younger disciple still did not know where to start. Neither she nor her relatives were Australian citizens, and they would normally be ineligible for federal government assistance. After sharing about the issue with fellow practitioners at group study we together decided to reject this Old Forces arrangement, and ask for a benevolent arrangement.
A few fellow practitioners and I drafted a letter jointly signed by seven Australian citizens, requesting diplomatic representation from MPs, senators and relevant government agencies. We took turns reviewing the letter and shared understandings that the letter should not just focus on the younger disciple’s family rather serve as a local example of the CCP’s persecution as a whole. The message should be the persecution is continuing after 24 years, still affecting the family members of Australian residents, and the CCP should unconditionally release Dafa disciples detained in Mainland China. We also understood the letter would have a much greater impact if we carefully researched the best contact people before emailing and hand-delivering our truth clarification message.
This was partly out of consideration for agencies and political representatives who receive many requests each day. It was also meant to save time by removing the need for different people to forward our correspondence to the right person. We also recognised we cannot rely too heavily on just emails and need to do follow-up phone calls.
Our good cooperation resulted in the foreign affairs agency phoning me directly a few days later to ask questions about the practitioner’s relatives. When citizenship was brought up the bureaucrat expressed her sympathies but regretted she cannot help further because the younger disciple and her mother and father were non-Australian citizens. I initially felt disappointed and a bit resentful about the agency not taking action. However, I thought about the bureaucrat’s sympathy and wish that she could do something to help. I calmed down after realising this. Fellow practitioners and I discussed the agency’s feedback and realised this phone call was encouragement from Master to keep requesting politician meetings.
Practitioners were later invited to a face-to-face appointment with a staffer who previously supported our local truth clarification site. Three disciples and I attended the meeting and explained the younger disciple’s circumstances as a local example of how the CCP’s persecution affects people in Australia. The staffer doubted his ability to help free detained family members.
I could recognise I also had doubts about what the government could do for non-Australian citizens. However, I encouraged myself, fellow practitioners and even the staffer to do everything possible without focusing on the outcome. This proved to be very important in our next round of meetings in Canberra.
Another politician who previously attended a truth clarification activity also invited all four of us to a face-to-face meeting in the Parliament of Australia. We understood Master was still encouraging us to not stop meeting with more representatives and agencies. I realised I was relying too much on those who had supported Dafa practitioners before. I should keep doing follow-up phone calls and sending emails to help arrange as many meetings as possible even with those who had not previously voiced support. We quickly booked another three appointments before our flight departed.
At the airport we realised the younger disciple had forgotten to bring her primary identification. I became alert, went silent and tried to look away while she worriedly searched for her passport. I initially wanted to push all responsibility and blame onto the younger practitioner. However, I suddenly realised I should have reminded her to bring her documents on the way to the domestic terminal. I also understood that if we left the younger disciple behind our trip to Canberra would be unlikely to achieve very favourable results.
I looked at other practitioners and they were also trying to refrain from blaming her. We together looked within, asked for a benevolent arrangement and I began researching entry requirements on the Parliament House website. I understood that any photo identification could be accepted, but the younger disciple only had her student ID card. I asked other practitioners to send forth righteous thoughts and phoned the parliamentary switchboard. Security guards answered the call and miraculously accepted the younger practitioner’s student ID instead of her passport. We were still able to travel to Canberra and enter Parliament House.
Similar xinxing tests occurred after we arrived in Canberra. After collecting the rental car, I dropped fellow practitioners off at their accommodation and began heading to my mother’s house in Canberra. I suddenly received a phone call from another disciple, asking me to return to their accommodation because a Brisbane Courier-Mail journalist wanted to do a last-minute interview. I initially felt tired and wanted to rest after the flight. However, I calmed down and realised favourable metropolitan media coverage would help save thousands of sentient beings. I drove back to the city accommodation and joined the phone interview, which went very smoothly without any problems. The journalist also asked us to take a photo of the younger practitioner outside Parliament House.
It was already evening and there was not much daylight left, so I once again let go of my tiredness and drove everyone to Parliament House. It started to rain but I was not moved by this, because the photo was still very important in saving sentient beings. We stood in the rain and took the print-quality photo. When we returned to the accommodation and checked the file there was no obvious signs of wet weather. We sent the photo to the journalist who was able to publish it. I understood Master helped us through postponing the rain long enough for us to take the picture and leave.
Similar challenges occurred when a different practitioner accidentally left her ID in her luggage. Another disciple had to run back to the car with food leftovers right before the next VIP meeting started. Each time miracles happened and everything still proceeded as planned, because none of us criticised or blamed each other. I just focused on what needed to be done instead of fighting with others.
One of the politicians organised a meeting with disciples but wanted to cancel due to a double booking. I rejected this arrangement and phoned the politician’s office to ask whether one of his staffers was available to meet face-to-face instead. One staffer agreed and later told practitioners he often read the Epoch Times during his university years. He later worked in foreign affairs and provided valuable insights into how government agencies can represent the younger disciple’s concerns about her relatives in China. I understood the staffer helped us because fellow Australian practitioners did a very good job of clarifying the truth to him over many years.
Another politician said he could not stand by and watch this crime against humanity happen without doing something. He offered to print and copy truth clarification materials for fellow practitioners. He also agreed to meet with CCP representatives face-to-face and make representations about the younger practitioner’s relatives. His offer to print truth clarification materials in his parliamentary office was very rare because this service would normally only be available through his electoral location in Queensland. His heart was very touched by the younger disciple’s truth clarification.
The first politician who invited us, and earlier attended a truth clarification event, thanked the younger disciple for bravely coming forward to explain her family’s persecution to MPs and senators in both Queensland and Canberra about the persecution. The younger practitioner faced many intense emotional tests during these meetings, struggled to hold back her tears and carry on. However, with the support of fellow practitioners, she was able to push aside her own sadness and anxiety to share her story and save sentient beings.
As a result the politician was very moved and responded that ending the CCP’s arbitrary detention, torture and organ harvesting of practitioners was very important for Australia. The politician did not do anything specifically other than encourage us to meet with her counterparts in government too.
I was initially disappointed to hear nothing further would be done but realised I had been attached to expecting results from supportive VIPs. I then understood this was a hint from Master that we should continue booking more meetings with those who had not openly supported Dafa.
I phoned and emailed the foreign affairs agency and ministry to remind them we still wanted an appointment. I also contacted the political staffer who we earlier met in Queensland to ask him to help secure a meeting with the foreign affairs agency and ministry too. I did not give up hope that a miracle could happen if we cooperated well with each other.
Shortly after I received a phone call from the foreign affairs agency and was offered a virtual or online appointment. However, the proposed date was after we were due to return home. After sharing with practitioners, we requested a face-to-face meeting that same day at their nearby office. The agency initially hesitated to make representations to the CCP on behalf of the younger disciple’s family, because previous advocacy only angered the CCP and even resulted in retaliation against other prisoners of conscience. After the younger practitioner carefully weighed the risks she requested the agency’s advocacy to the CCP which proceeded as promised.
I understood this happened because I did not fight with fellow practitioners, let go of the attachment to proving my point, and just focused on saving sentient beings.
I received another phone call from the foreign ministry, this time offering a separate meeting in Parliament House. I discovered this was because the political staffer who met four of us earlier in Queensland had insisted the foreign ministry urgently gives us all an appointment. The staffer overcame his doubts about what the government could do to help non-Australian citizens after I overcame my own attachment to expecting results from supportive politicians. I knew this was Master’s benevolent arrangement so we accepted the last-minute meeting.
In the foreign ministry office we were personally greeted by the assistant minister. He expressed sympathy for the younger practitioners’ relatives and said the government cares about her case and will do everything to help. Two staffers also met with us and heard the younger disciple’s concerns about the CCP targeting her parents for illegal organ harvesting, which the United Nations also expressed concerns about. Staffers said the Australian government will openly support human rights and not adopt a closed-door dialogue with the CCP like previous governments did before. They also said the foreign minister would raise the younger disciple’s case with the CCP directly.
As far as we know, the mother and father are no longer in the detention centre but are under house arrest while waiting for their sentence. Fellow practitioners and the Mainland Chinese disciples later shared about these more favourable conditions.
We understood the foreign ministry and agency positioned themselves well because we refrained from fighting or blaming each other, improved xinxing, rejected the Old Forces, and trusted Master’s benevolent arrangement. This allowed miracles to happen even though the younger disciple, mother and father were not Australian citizens.
I am reminded of Master’ 2002 lecture called Touring North America to Teach the Fa which says:
“When you conduct yourselves righteously Master can do anything for you. If your righteous thoughts are truly strong, if you’re able to put aside the thought of life and death, and if you’re solid and unshakable like diamond, then those evil beings won’t dare to touch you.”
This is just my cultivation sharing. Please kindly point out anything inappropriate.
Thank you, Teacher.
Thank you, fellow practitioners.
