Small Trickles will
Finally Become the Sea
cultivation experience during Shen Yun group ticket promotion)
joining in Shen Yun promotion last November. In the beginning,
I was very passive. I became involved only because I heard that we
lacked English speakers in contacting big companies. So I volunteered
to make phone calls.
effects in the first two weeks were far from satisfactory. There
were many times that I couldn't get hold of the right person; and there
were very few occasions when I could secure an appointment, or have the
companies agree to send out
Yun information for us. And I was often interfered with by other
issues and couldn't make many phone calls in a whole day. I started
asking: Why is it like this?
stage, I realised that it was because my mind was not quite right.
I participated in the project only because I felt that “in theory”, I
should. However, was my heart really into it? No, it wasn't .
had put even less heart in it than I did in other projects. When I
did other projects, I thought I was the one in charge of a certain
thing or a certain department; therefore I was responsible for this
thing or this department. If
didn't do well, it was my fault. However, the situation was not the
same in Shen Yun promotion; as here we already had coordinators for
each team; whilst I only needed to cooperate. It was the coordinators'
responsibilities to make
that everything went on well. It seemed that what concerned me was
only whether I had been doing things for Shen Yun. Wasn't this
validating myself instead of saving sentient beings?
cultivation point of view, I knew that was not the real me. I had
realised it, so I must let go of it and break away from it. I needed to
participate in Shen Yun promotion with a pure heart.
I joined in another team; our main task was to contact organisers of
events to see if we could introduce Shen Yun at their events.
putting my heart into what I was doing, instead of just going
through the motions as I did when I made phone calls. I made efforts to
study the websites of the events to find out the best angle to approach
them. Sometimes I spent half
day to do background research and to get familiar with the organisers
and their events. On the surface, I had spent a lot more time. However,
not only gods; but humans could also see if one had put one's heart
into something. After
my letters especially relevant to their event, some
organisers agreed to cooperate with us; some top level international
financial institute said that although time was too tight to do
anything with us this year, they would be very happy to cooperate with
us next time .
I started participating in our team's daily on-line meetings at
10:00 pm. I soon felt a very refreshing atmosphere here. Everyone was
given an equal opportunity to share what they had done in the day; to
raise issues they might have ,
to discuss what should be done next. More experienced practitioners
would give very valuable and timely suggestions. At that time, the
Charity Program had just started, details of the special show for
students had also just been finalised. As it would soon be Christmas,
was running against the time to get things done before the
holiday. Some practitioners were so busy that they even didn't have
time to eat. Seeing this, I really wanted to share some of their work
load. However, I didn 't
where to begin. I dared not contact companies or charities,
fearing that I could double up with others. On the other hand, I didn't
know our policy, nor did I know how others were doing things, how they
an agreement with others, etc. I hoped that someone could give me
some guidance; and that I could have some template letters to contact
companies and charities.
raised these issues to the coordinator of our team, she said, there
were so many big companies in Sydney, and we had only very few people
doing this. You just go out and talk to them, don't worry about double

felt a little bit puzzled. However, I did understand why the
situation was like that. The coordinator of our team was also our top
sales star and was full of ideas. In western society, everything had to
be planned earlier. If she didn't
the time, it would be impossible to finalise many things with the
companies she was talking to. Therefore she really didn't have time to
look after those “internal issues”; although she had tried her best to
support the team members,
to give advices and revise proposals for them, etc.
we couldn't go on like this. These few practitioners were so
busy; but others had no ideas about what they were doing, nor could
they offer any help. Furthermore, if we didn't have a centralised
management of our client
human resource and documents, what a mess that would be? So I
developed a working structure and process to follow for the team. Some
coordinator said it was good; but more coordinators said, we didn't
have time or energy to do
things at the overall structure level. Let it be. Let's do what are
already in our hands first.
to myself, didn't Master ask us to learn from everyday people's
management structure? Which company or organisation in everyday society
didn't have a structure, working procedures or regulations?
too many past lessons, I had already learned not to insist on my
own ideas, no matter how great I thought they might be; because that
would definitely be an unharmonious factor.
discarded my ideas, set aside all notions and started learning from
others. I also teamed up with fellow practitioners to meet and
negotiate with companies.
realised that the new path this team was taking, the new ideas,
new methods and new approaches this team had worked out were exactly
what Master required from us, which was, to really step into the
things up in one sentence, starting from obtaining a nod from Shen
Yun office in the US to go ahead with the “Charity Program”, this team
had worked out a “Business to Business (B to B)” approach to promote
instead of only trying to “sell” something to others like before.
as the presenter of Shen Yun show, or as a media outlet, we can
cooperate with other businesses or organisations at the same level, or
to work on a “B to B” basis. We have this world class show, and very influential
outlets. We can help businesses and organisations to promote and
enhance their brand images and products, to provide high profile
cultural entertainment to their customers and staff; and we can even
offer direct financial benefits to charities, etc.
are able to help other businesses and organisations, they also open
their doors for us. For example, the charities we support have already
put Shen Yun information at their own websites; some companies or
organisations which have hundreds of thousands staff or members have sent
out Shen Yun information for us; a certain organisation has bought over
an entire show...
existing networks inside every society is a very well-leveraged,
efficient and low cost method. When we do “business negotiations”, we
naturally introduce Shen Yun to them. As in this instance their own
interest is also involved, they will listen with
more attention. For example, someone for a certain charity which
works together with us said, she had seen the advertisement of Shen Yun
before, but didn't feel anything at that time. Now, because of the
cooperative relationship with us, she
became very excited when she saw the Shen Yun ad again. The feeling was
totally different now.
stage, I also enlightened to another layer of Fa-principles behind
the reason why Master asks us to cultivate in everyday society. From
the successful cases of practitioners using their current connections
to promote Shen Yun, I realised that another reason why we have to
in everyday society. It was for practitioners to be able to
penetrate in every sector of the society and to have various
connections. So when Shen Yun comes, we can use these connections to
save sentient beings.
sense, if we don't utilise our current connections to promote Shen
Yun, we may have failed to understand why Master arranged for us to
cultivate in the everyday society.
our team members have come to the conclusion that the path we are
taking is really a new one that we should be walking on. Only we had
started too late; and there were too few practitioners who were
longer attached to my idea of setting up a proper structure.
Instead, I accepted a practitioner's suggestion to document what we
were doing first. So I started with taking minutes for our daily online
meetings. After taking down the main points and issues to follow up, I
sent them to more practitioners.
suggested that we set up an email list to communicate with more
practitioners, as not everyone could spend two or three hours to attend
was supported by the coordinators and other practitioners.
As it was already the Christmas holiday then, I couldn't get a
practitioner to set up a new list for me, so I used an old one instead.
I explained to the previous list members
and told them that they could ask to be removed if they wished.
me was, out of 40 plus members, only three asked to be removed.
The majority chose to stay, which indicated that they all cared about
Shen Yun promotion issues. Within several days, we already had more
than one hundred members on the list.
from other cities offered to translate the minutes into
English everyday, so that the westerners could also know what's going
on and get involved.
feel that gradually, as well as quickly, everyone's heart,
everyone's efforts were joining force together. When I no longer
attached to a structure or centralised management, things worked out
naturally. A practitioner volunteered to manage all our client data
base, human resource
documents. This was a huge task. We finally had a not
yet-satisfactory data base. But at least we could build upon this base.
We could not always act like “a bear picking corn.” Without a properly
managed database, every
year we had to start from scratch without being able to accumulate our
client base and successful experiences in the past.
time I also realised that Dafa disciples' projects did have
differences with that of everyday people's. For example, sometimes we
realised that something needed to be done, but we lacked man power. So
we sent out a notice to recruit people to do it.
many practitioners would respond? How many would really put their
hearts in and spend time to do it? All these will decide how successful
we will be. This is why everyone was saying that the overall situation
of our Shen Yun promotion is a manifestation
of our overall cultivation status.
we use the word or the concept of “overall”, or “whole body”, we
need to be cautious of another tendency. For example, if there are
altogether 1000 practitioners in Australia, everyone is just 0.1% out
of the 1000.
when we say we have a problem with the “overall cultivation status”,
or with the “whole body”, we may well mean that 99.9% of the problem is
other people's problem, as I am only 0.1% in the “ whole
If we use the word “ whole body” in this sense, we fail to look
within, and the “whole body” has become an excuse for us not to make
our own efforts.
now, I haven't done much in terms of contacting companies or
securing deals on my own. However, I realised the importance more and
more about connecting practitioners together and helping others to
a practitioner from WA flew over to Sydney to help during his
holiday. He had only one week to stay. However, at that time we no
longer had stalls in some of the shopping centres; letter box delivery
had finished; companies had closed
for holiday. If no one arranged things for him to do, he would have
ended up coming in vain.
suggested that he go out to contact shop owners, as I learned from
the meeting on the previous day that we needed to apply for more stalls
in shops or shopping centres.
it was as simple as making several phone calls to arrange basic
training and materials for him. And this practitioner started going out
to visit shops in the city on the next day. He worked really hard and
had visited many shops and obtained contact details
the headquarters of many big chain stores. He also learned how to
write a proposal. He said he had learned a lot, had come up with many
new inspirations and would introduce more practitioners from Perth to
help after he went back. In fact ,
even before he went back, he already introduced two practitioners to
the difference between a Dafa project and everyday people's affairs.
We are really doing things with our hearts. I never got to see this
practitioner in person during his entire stay in Sydney, however, we
worked exactly like one body. As soon as one
practitioner understands, he will help more practitioners to step
forward and join in the force.
more and more western practitioners, as well as inter-state
practitioners are also joining in the group ticket team. Although we
still don't have a visible structure, things are becoming more and more
in order naturally. Everyone silently makes up for what's
and new members bring us new inspirations and methods. All
these made me feel, that the small trickles will eventually become the
sea. When our righteous thoughts in other dimensions and our righteous
actions in this human world can be connected and formed into one body,
the doors for saving sentient beings will have really widely opened for
the same time, we are very well aware that many of the negotiations
with companies have just started. We haven't seen the results yet and
our efforts have not been translated into tickets sales. Many things
need to be followed up and we
to make every effort to do things better. The relationship with
every client needs to be cultivated and maintained with our heart. At
the same time, we still need more practitioners to work out more and
better methods to spread the message so that sentient beings can walk
into the theatre and be saved.
harder together. Thank you very much!
